Our History

NAMPS was formed in 1995 and was originally titled National Association of Medical Personnel Specialists. The title was modernised in 2025 and NAMPS now stands for the National Association of Medical People Specialists. It is the professional association for those working in the field of Medical HR and it is run by Medical HR Specialists. It is an information network that promotes expertise in this field, formulating and disseminating good practice, advice, and training to those dealing with the medical workforce in the NHS.

The NAMPS Executive Team are all volunteers who give up their time as they are passionate about seeking to ensure that Medical HR Specialists can deliver the best possible services for the NHS.

NAMPS members receive regular newsletters, publications of good practice, have access to training sessions and the annual conference. Ordinary Membership of NAMPS is just £35 per year.

Our purpose and mission is to:

  • Promote expertise in the field of Medical HR.

  • Formulate and disseminate good practice in Medical HR.

  • Provide advice and support locally through members regional networks.

  • Run training sessions and produce publications of good practice.

  • Give our members a professional network to belong to.

  • Provide Medical HR with a recognised national voice in the NHS.

The NAMPS National Executive

We are a group of dedicated NHS/HR professionals, with too many years of experience in the field of Medical HR to be able to calculate! We volunteer our skills and expertise in order to ensure that new Medical HR colleagues are welcomed and provided with a network of specialists across the country to support them, with dedicated training. We aim to support them, each other and to continue to build the medical staffing expertise for the future NHS workforce.
